To optimize the fun factor when visiting the infamous red light district of Patpong in Bangkok you should stay in a bar girl friendly hotel. Why? Because paying a 500 Baht joiner fee to a hotel that is not bar girl friendly is not fun.

Out of the 3 red light districts in Bangkok, Patpong has the fewest bar girl friendly hotels within walking range to the wildest go go bars contained in Patpong.

These types of hotels are not some sleazy sex hotels as most would think. Matter of fact you’ll see newly weds, retired grand parents on a holiday and even lesbians staying in hotel that is bar girl friendly. It’s just a policy that certain hotel’s have towards mostly single male tourist out to have fun in Bangkok.

Take for example the Tawana Hotel on Surawongse road. It’s less then a 3 minute walk to one of the entrances of Patpong on Soi 1. From the outside it’s a large modern hotel with a huge lobby with a classical grand piano on one end. Yes, you guessed it. Tawana Hotel has a bar girl friendly policy.

Just down 2 blocks is the Montien Hotel. This is also quite a classy hotel known for excellent service and spacious rooms. If you ever decide to stay there ask for a room facing Lumphini Park because each room comes with a balcony. You’ll get an excellent view. The Montien is right at the entrance of Patpong sex district and bar girl friendly as well. It can’t really get much better than that.

The Tawana Hotel and Montien Hotel are a bit pricey but really affordable. However if budget is a concern then look no further then Bally’s Suite Silom located right on Silom road with direct access to the Bangkok’s BTS and MRT train stations. Bally’s is just a 6 minute walk to the go go bar delights of Patpong and on the way you’ll even pass by Soi Thaniya, a popular hang out spot for Japanese to find cute Thai women.

There’s not just go go bars in the Patpong red light districts, there are also a few soapy massage parlors and they’re near the Rose Hotel, another popular and affordable bar girl friendly hotel just behind the Montien Hotel.

Just remember though a hotel is considered bar girl friendly, your bar girl may have to leave her Thai I.D. card with the security desk. It’s just an extra safety precaution for you.

Finally these hotels are very popular so it would be a good idea to book at least 2 weeks or more in advance.

The exotic city of Bangkok has three popular red light districts and if you’re short on time and had to choose which one to visit then Patpong should be it.

Patpong is easily reached by Bangkok’s public train systems and located in the commercial business district. In the daytime you could never tell that Patpong is a street filled with sex and sleaze and it only comes alive when the neon lights from the go go bars declare that they’re open for business.

There are two streets that most visitors frequent, Patpong 1 and Patpong 2.

The busiest and most lively street is Patpong 1 which has the more popular go go bars such as King’s Castle and Queen’s Castle, these go go bars are very popular and shouldn’t be missed. At 6PM the police shuts the street down to traffic and vendors begin setting up shop to sell knock offs of all kinds such as handbags, jeans and yes Rolex.

With all the shopping available in Patpong 1 it is easy to see why it has become more commercialized as backpackers and vacationers match the amount of single males visiting Patpong.

But the biggest business of all in Patpong 1 of course is the sex for sale. Go go bars, massage parlors and sex shows abound as hundreds of touts try and convince you to follow them and they’ll show you, “The best time of your life”.

Patpong 2 on the other hand is less lively and unlike it’s sister street, Patpong 2 is less crowded and frequented more by males who enjoying hanging out in the open air bars. The go go bars in Patpong 2 are less popular so you might want to skip it.

There are plenty of great hotel options near Patpong and some of them do not require their guest to pay a fee for taking a companion back to their rooms. Budget hotels such as Rose Hotel to classy hotels such as the Montien do not require such fees, but there are plenty more hotel options.

Today those same lights are now brighter and the boots of soldiers have been replaced by sandal wearing backpackers and single men on the prowl for sex.

The red light district of Patpong is located at the business district of Bangkok called Silom. Like all the other red light districts in Bangkok, Patpong is easily reached by taking the BTS Sky Train and getting off at Sala Daeng station. You can also take the underground train and get off at Silom MRT station. And of course any Taxi driver in Bangkok will know where Patpong is.

Patpong is a fairly decent sized red light district consisting of two main streets, running parallel to each other called Patpong 1 and Patpong 2. And there are hundreds of nightlife establishments such as go go bars, beer bars and sex shows. Head to Patpong 1 for the most popular go go bars such as King’s Castle 1 and2, and Queen’s Castle 1 and 2. They are all run by the same management and have a reputation for not padding the bills. It’s best to get there by 9pm to get the best seats as the establishments do get packed full with visitors.

Now here’s something you may want to know about. Patpong’s go go bars do employ transvestites. More commonly referred to as lady-boys. Whether you like them or not you’ll inevitably come across one in Patpong’s go go bars. King’s Castle 3 for example is a go go bar with all lady-boys employed inside and are either pre-op or post op.

All of the other go go bars in the area will have a sprinkling of post-op lady-boys employed inside, mixed with a higher proportion of real women. If you’re not sure whether you are talking to a real lady or not you can always ask. If you don’t want to hurt someone’s feeling then ask the Mamasan hostess who will be truthful to you.

Patpong 2 has the fewest go go bars but the best one by far is Club Electric Blue which is run by a group of westerners. You’ll mostly find open air bars with ladies to keep you company in this area. It’s definitely much quieter in Patpong 2 and has a laid back atmosphere.

It’s obvious that a man’s motive in a go go bar is to take a lady back to his hotel room. In order to do so they have to pay a 500THB “bar fine” to management.  However, one must keep in mind that there are hotels that charge a “joiner fee” which is also 500THB. But there are some hotels near Patpong that don’t charge such a fee and are deemed “guest friendly”.

Even though today Patpong has been severely commercialized and sanitized it still retains the seedy charm that men are and always will be attracted to. And even through all the tough competition with other red light districts, Patpong is showing no signs of slowing down.
